I missed this game because I was at the stadium formerly known as Skydome watching the Argos flounder. From what I've read, it sounds like our special teams stepped up and we played a pretty good home game. Kyle Wellwood stayed hot adding a goal and assist to lead the
I blame myself. I haven't been to a game since the '03 - '04 season and when I finally score tix my team lays an egg. Actually, the first five minutes or so were pretty good with the Leafs controlling the play and taking the lead, but after that it
Ok, it wasn't exactly a phone call. It was more of a request to call, and it was sent via the net. Right after I wrote this entry I received a note via my contact form. It read "Mikey, Give me a call .... very important! Tim 555-555-5555". I immediately dialed
"Praise for a trailblazer" is the title of today's column by Damien Cox in The Toronto Star. I'd link to the article, but that damn Star URI has so many ampersands I'd have to edit, I couldn't be bothered. I'm boycotting links to thestar.com until they clean up their
Steve, if you're reading this, I think it's time you change Leafs jerseys. You've been wearing that #16 Tucker jersey for a while now, and he's off to a great start to the season, but did you read the sports section in yesterday's Star? You couldn't skip past that headline:
O Captain! My Captain! Shorthanded in overtime, Sundin beat Miikka Kiprusoff with a long blast to complete the hat trick and reach the 500 goal milestone. It was also his 15th career overtime goal, an NHL record. We're getting our money's worth out of Leaf games this season. Six games
It was tough to watch that third period last night. Up 6-3, the Leafs stopped attacking and sat back, hoping to hold on for the two points. With Aubin playing his worst game as a Leaf, Brian Gionta scored three unanswered third period goals to bring New Jersey all the
Until Darcy Tucker scored the shootout goal that secured us the two points, I was sure we were snake bitten. We absolutely dominated, peppering Alex Auld with 48 shots, many of them quality chances. If Belfour was in net for the Panthers, this would have been a cake walk. We're
In shocking news, the Leafs lost another shootout. Of all the games not to play Suglobov... To make things worse, I had to watch our loss from a Bowlerama with a Habs fan amongst the members of Raging Storm. Habs fans are the most irritating and annoying creatures on the
Stephen Harper won't admit to rooting for a particular NHL team. He was born in Toronto, lived in Calgary and rules Ottawa. In typical political style, he realizes that deciding on a favourite will upset a large portion of voters. He's happily assumed his perch on the fence. On Wednesday
Where the hell did that come from? I saw glimpses of yesterday's effort in the preseason, but I sure wasn't betting on seeing it last night. That was a helluva lot of fun, wasn't it? Kyle Wellwood had a career-high four assists for the Maple Leafs as we successfully ruined
Don't even pretend you're surprised by this lacklustre effort in the season opener. The Sens owned us last year, except for the third last game of the season when we salvaged a win. We've been outscored 44-20 in losing eight of our last nine games against Ottawa. Borje Salming looked
Take a peek at this. That's the official Toronto Mike Maple Leafs Countdown Clock. There is but 1 day, 22 hours, 34 minutes, and 46 seconds left until the puck drops on the regular season. Season-opening rosters must be set prior to a 24-hour period before a team's first regular
Watching the first two periods of tonight's hockey game between the Leafs and Red Wings I kept having the same recurring thought. Why is Nik Antropov still on this team? He's done absolutely nothing this preseason to justify his existence. He's been invisible again tonight, getting less than seven minutes
I've watched quite a bit of the Leafs preseason thus far, and I'd like to see Aleksander Suglobov make the club. Critics will tell you he doesn't play defense and therefore doesn't deserve a roster spot. Others will tell you he passes as often as Sergei Berezin did, which was
I'm not suggesting we start planning the parade quite yet, but the Leafs looked really good yet again last night. They were quick, aggressive and effective. Jean-Sebastien Aubin was fantastic between the pipes, picking up right where he left off last season. It's no secret one of our biggest problems
Anyone is welcome to submit a Guest Blog Entry to torontomike.com. I received the following entry earlier today. Tie Domi retired today with an emotional press conference at the ACC. A player with LIMITED ability yet played 1022 games in the NHL - sheer determination & the want to
The Buffalo Sabres are in town to take on our beloved Toronto Maple Leafs in our first pre-season game of the 2006-2007 NHL season. Those with LeafsTV, like me, will be watching tonight. I'm still curious as to who will score on this team. There's Mats Sundin, who we know
According to the official Toronto Mike countdown clock, there are only 29 days, 3 hours, 48 minutes, and 42 seconds left until the Toronto Maple Leafs regular season opener!
Responding to a guest blog entry moments ago, I dropped the name Miroslav Ihnacak. Leaf fans old enough to remember the horrible 80s will be flooded with unfulfilling memories at the sight of the name Miroslav Ihnacak. For a twelve year old Leaf fan, it's a memory I'll never forget.
It's official. Nothing is sacred. I just read that Reebok will be launching "predominantly pink, female-friendly sweaters for each of the NHL's 30 teams". For the Leafs, that means a white sweater with pink striping patterns, logo, numbers and letters. No, there won't be a stich of blue in there.
Reports indicate that the Maple Leafs have signed centre Mike Peca to a one-year contract worth $2.5 million. With $42.8 million now committed to salaries, our free agent spending spree has come to an end. It's tough to argue against this addition. He's a home town boy who
I want to believe John Ferguson, Jr. has a plan. I really, really do. The more I see this guy in action and hear what he has to say, the less I believe that to be true. At times Ferguson seems clueless, entirely in over his head. Let's talk about
Today, the National Hockey League released its 2006-07 schedule. The Leafs open their season at home against the Sens on October 4th. In honour of the occasion, I've re-launched my little countdown page, an annual tradition. A visit to that page confirms there's only 83 days, 23 hours, 3 minutes,
The Toronto Maple Leafs were busy yesterday, signing Pavel Kubina to a four-year $20 million deal and Hal Gill to a three-year deal at $2.075 million per season. I like the Kubina signing. He didn't come cheap, but he'll be a great addition to the big three who can
