Sony has decided to stop making 3.5-inch floppy disks. That's it, put a fork in this format, it's done. Of course, the 3.5 inch floppy has been dead for quite some time. When was the last time you used one? Last year, while cleaning my basement, I came
There's a MIDI sequence sound file on your Windows pc that you probably don't know exists. It's called onestop.mid and you'll find it at C:\Windows\Media\. Onestop was composed by David Yackley and it's been found in Windows since XP, possibly earlier. If you're on a Mac or
Gmail gives you a lot of space for free, but I just hit the wall for the second time. The first time I hit 99% capacity, I managed to free up a GB of space with a selective deletion campaign. A couple of days ago, here's what I was seeing
I was just checking out a great little HTML5 and CSS3 checklist by findmebyip.com. They've looked at the top five browsers, both PC and Mac, and looked at whether it supported CSS3 Properties, CSS3 Selectors, HTML5 Web Applications, HTML5 Embedded Content, HTML5 Audio Codecs, HTML5 Video Codecs, HTML5 Forms
Last month I openly declared I had switched default browsers from Firefox to Chrome. The new Chrome extensions were pretty sweet, and Chrome seemed to be faster. That was then.... ...this is now. I'm back with Firefox. Google Chrome seemed hesitant after a short while, unresponsive. There was even buggy
I've already helped you justify DVD thievery, now I'm here to help you justify audio book thievery. This is from The Brads and it's entitled Why DRM Doesn't Work. It's a compelling argument.
I just wanted to test my new Lorem Ipsum Generator extension for Google Chrome. Nunc mattis rhoncus. Magna! Sit duis purus integer! Porta ac, placerat vut odio tempor elit placerat tristique turpis. Sed aliquam magna porta facilisis porta, cum purus porttitor turpis! In sed ultrices? Magna amet a, ac sit
The challenge was simple. Take a longtime Firefox user who is reliant on his FF extensions and get him to switch to Google Chrome. On February 7th, I updated Chrome and installed a series of extensions that would perform the work of my old Firefox add-ons. If you're curious as
My youngest child just got her first email account. She now knows how to login to her Gmail account and send emails and gchats to her parents, brother, grandmother and uncles. My oldest child got his first account when he was five, and it really helped him learn to type,
Google has announced they're going to build and test ultra high-speed broadband networks in a small number of trial locations across the United States. We'll deliver Internet speeds more than 100 times faster than what most Americans have access to today with 1 gigabit per second, fiber-to-the-home connections. We plan
I've been searching for the YouTube of audio for years. I'm just looking for a place where I can upload an MP3 and embed the player on my site. I used to like Odeo for this, and then Odeo dropped the ability to upload. Then I started using iMeem, until
Yesterday, I wrote about web browsers. I've been a Firefox user for as long as the Mozilla browser has had that name, and part of the reason I've resisted the switch to Google Chrome is my reliance on the Firefox add-ons. The fact is, Chrome extensions have come a long
Using data in Google Analytics, here are the browsers visitors to this site are using. This data was collected over the past 30 days. Internet Explorer is used by the majority of you, Firefox is a strong second and Safari is a decent third place with a little over 10%
I actually resisted the iPod for years. I preferred my iRiver because it actually had a built in FM receiver. Sometimes I want to listen to MP3s, other times I want to listen to the radio. I eventually bought a Shuffle for running and a couple of years ago I
I'm bumping into embedded Hulu clips more often in the blogosphere. Hulu is a website that offers ad-supported streaming video of TV shows and movies from NBC, FOX and many other networks and studios. The quality is great, and because it's a legal channel, you never have to worry that
There are several wireless networks inside the Air Canada Centre. Yesterday, while in the media press box, I was given the username and password for the connection known as ACCWifi. Here are the connections my laptop detected. Prior to my visit, Elliotte Friedman warned me that the ACC wifi was
When Odeo stopped allowing audio uploads, I started looking for a replacement. Essentially, I was looking for the YouTube of audio. I discovered imeem would pretty much do what I wanted. I could upload an audio clip, usually one of Tom Cheek's calls of Blue Jays baseball or a Humble
I've got 38 invitations to Google Wave. If you want to use Google Wave, leave a comment and I'll hook you up. The first 38 commenters get one. For realz.
I have an old laptop primed and ready for Google's Chrome OS. Sources have told TechCrunch that the new Google OS will become available for download within a week. We expect Google will be careful with messaging around the launch, and endorse a small set of devices for installation. EEE
The Mozilla folks are celebrating Five Years of Firefox. As they say over there, "that's a long time on the Internet, so let's celebrate five years of working together to make the Web better for everyone". Firefox became my default browser in June 2004 when it was version 0.9.
I've been beta testing Google Wave for about a month now, and... well... it's complicated. I want to love Google Wave, because it's a bloody seductive premise, but it's just not intuitive enough for mass appeal. I'm one of those bleeding edge guys when it comes to web apps and
Google just gave me a bunch more invitations to Google Wave Last time I had invitations, I gave them all out to people who requested one in the comments. I'm happy to do that again. If you want to use Google Wave, leave a comment and I'll hook you up.
Judging from the comments and email I've received in response to my declaration that I actually like thestar.com's redesign, it seems a bunch of you have issues loading the site in Internet Explorer. Below are visitors to this site over the past 30 days, broken out by web browser.
I've had a few days with Google Wave and it's not the most intuitive tool. It's actually pretty complex. To be honest, I'm still trying to wrap my feeble brain around the possiblities. The key to Google Wave's success is going to be widespread adoption, as its true power is
