On Friday night, I heard "Jays To The Top" for the first time. This was a song that appeared on the new and improved Blue Jays compilation that was released in 1991. "Jays To The Top" was performed by my buddy Humble Howard Glassman back when he was at CFNY.
When I was last at Freddie P's house, I took some pictures of the cool CFNY stuff he had on his wall. This morning, I was hanging with Humble Howard at his place and I decided to snap a few pics of his stuff. Here's the photoset, if you're curious.
As previously mentioned, CFNY Edge 102 counted down the top 102 Canadian new rock songs of all time today. They just aired Underwhelmed seconds ago, so you're getting this awfully quick. I threw this together while watching the Leafs game and filled in the cracks with a little help from
I spent the morning in Brampton with Freddie P. I was greeted with a great cup of coffee and a raisin bran muffin from Tim's, a perfect way to start a Saturday morning. I was there for our Movable Type education transfer. His web site is now a real blog
I did this once before. Earlier today I copied the list of songs played on 102.1 in the previous twelve hours and I've added little notes to each one. People seemed to like that entry from September, but this kind of thing is a little more labour intensive than
I used to listen to a lot more radio. I've been a fan of the medium forever, and I've written extensively about radio here, but lately I've had less time for her. For one thing, I rarely drive anymore. I used to commute to work and spend a great deal
I wrote about a CFNY for grownups following a comment from Doug, but he was quick to remind me that we're talking about two different CFNYs. Last week Humble Howard made a comment about three different groups of CFNY / Edge102 listeners that can be grouped by morning shows. This concept
I was lucky enough to be a little slice of broadcast history this weekend. Regular visitors to this site have seen me write about The Humble & Fred radio show. It began in 1989 on CFNY-FM (later renamed Edge 102) and was the morning show I awoke to until it
If any former CFNY listeners haven't heard of http://www.spiritofradio.ca/, get over there and kill a few hours. It's a great tribute to our station. There are updates on the personalities, sound checks and CFNY Edge 102's top 1002 of all time. CFNY Edge 102's Top 1002 of
I mentioned that I've been enjoying the last twelve hours of Edge music, the best thing to happen to the official Edge site in forever. Shortly after noon today, I copied the list of songs played on 102.1 in the previous twelve hours and I've been adding little notes
Yesterday I discovered the last 12 hours of edge music. I love this kind of info and I love the possibilities such a page presents. I'm already monitoring song repetition, noting classics that still get airplay and realizing how much Nickleback CFNY Edge 102.1 plays in a twelve hour
the last 12 hours of edge music - I've been waiting for this feature to return to the 102.1 web site. They used to have a module on the front page that told you the song currently being played but this feature disappeared for some reason. This new page
I have fond memories of the Humble & Fred morning show on CFNY Edge 102, and those memories sparked this entry back in 2004. A year later, I was saddened to learn Fred Patterson had been released of his duties at Mix 99.9 and Humble was Fred-less. On July
Periodically, the referral stats for this site reveal a nugget of truth that hasn't hit the mainstream press. Most recently, this happened on July 14th when I detected, seemingly out of nowhere, a series of visitors who Googled "humble howard fired" and "humble howard leaves mix". Where there's smoke, there's
On what some are calling the Humble Appreciation Society, a comment was left this morning by a chap named Doug. He wrote something that struck a nerve with me. He openly yearned for "a CFNY for grownups". Yes! That's exactly what I'm looking for, or listening for, if you will.
All day long I've been getting hits from people Googling Humble Howard leaves mix and other similar searches. I rank rather highly for these searches, thanks to this entry about Fred Patterson getting the boot last September. I listened to Humble & Fred every morning for years when they were
In an effort to be fair and balanced I'd like to point out that CFNY Edge 102 is actively promoting July's Edgefest as Edgefest 2. You may recall I went off about the Edgefest line up the other day, releasing a yawn that was heard around the world. There have
Do you remember when Edgefest was a darn good rock n' roll show? CFNY Edge 102 used to put some serious effort into this show, hiring solid closers like Radiohead, Green Day, The Tragically Hip and more. Lately, it's been more of a joke. The last Edgefest I attended was
I thought my campaign to weed out safe pop-rock completely void of any soul or integrity was going well, until I heard All-American Rejects' "Dirty Little Secret" on CFNY Edge 102 the other day. Way back in August of 2003, I called for a complete ban of sound-alike, wanna-be-punk, nauseatingly

On New Year's Eve 2005, CFNY Edge 102 counted down their top 102 songs of the year. I would have posted their list earlier in the year, but I couldn't find it on their site. I finally wrote Alan Cross about it and he got me in touch with the
Listening to the second last live broadcast of Howard Stern's radio show on WBUF this morning I started thinking about my Toronto morning radio history. I've been with Howard for about eight years but before that I spent time with several other morning shows in Toronto. Here's a brief recount
The meme is out there, but Accordion Guy put a spin on it I dig so much I'm going to follow suit. The challenge is to find the Top 100 songs from the year you graduated from high school, list 'em on your site, highlight the ones you like and
For a new rock station that claims to have edge, CFNY Edge 102 sometimes picks a song to spin that doesn't make any sense to me. Currently on high rotation when it has no business being on the station is Nickelback's "Photograph". First, I should fully disclose my relationship with
I've written about Humble & Fred before. For over a decade the Humble and Fred Show, mornings on CFNY Edge 102, was the radio program to which I awoke. I stopped listening when they moved to the short-lived Mojo 640 and haven't heard a peep out of them since they
