I've always known the risks when I play music on Toronto Mike'd. I know there's no legal way to do it, and that podcast aggregators could remove episodes or de-platform me altogether. I suppose this was a risk I was willing to take.
This week alone Spotify is removing 156 episodes of Toronto Mike'd because they contain copyrighted music. Every 12:36 episode that includes The Beach Boys' Marcella, for example. At some point soon, these episodes won't be found on Spotify.
Spotify is well within their right to do this, and as I say, I knew the risks, but I still yearn for a legal route here, a way I can play 20 seconds of Marcella without Spotify removing the episodes. This remains an unfulfilled dream.
Currently, only Spotify is cracking down in this manner. Every episode of Toronto Mike'd remains available on-demand on every other podcast aggregator. I recommend ditching Spotify and using another one.
