Toronto's PWHL team finally has a nickname. They will be known as the Toronto Sceptres. Here's their logo.
Wikipedia tells me a sceptre (or scepter in American English) is a staff or wand held in the hand by a ruling monarch as an item of royal or imperial insignia, signifying sovereign authority.
Here's hoping Toronto hockey fans can master the spelling of sceptres, because in addition to the American spelling, I foresee:
- Septers
- Septres
- Cepters
- Ceptres
- Sceptors
Now before you complain that Toronto has nothing to do with sceptres let me remind you that our beloved NBA team is nicknamed the Raptors.
The other teams in the PWHL will be The Boston Fleet, Minnesota Frost, Montreal Victoire, New York Sirens, and Ottawa Charge.
