Sunsets are beautiful. It's always a highlight of my annual camping trip to The Pinery. An Ontario sunset doesn't get much better than the sun setting over Lake Huron.
When you use a service and the proprietor of this service decides it's not generating enough revenue and should be shut down, that's not beautiful. That's annoying and inconvenient. But when a company does this, as Spotify is doing with Chartable, they refer to it as "sunsetting".
We have an important update to share: after careful consideration, we've decided to sunset Chartable. We understand that any change to our products can mean a disruption to you and your podcasts, and we're committed to making this transition as smooth as possible.
Make no mistake, Spotify isn't sunsetting Chartable, Spotify is shutting Chartable down. Chartable likely offered too much handy podcast charting information for free.
But sunsetting sound an awful lot prettier.
