I just watched the Netflix documentary about the night USA For Africa recorded We Are The World. It's worth a viewing if you haven't seen it yet. There are a few mind blows in there, and plenty of fun facts. For example, I always wondered by Prince and Madonna were absent and I did not know that Waylon Jennings walked out or how Stevie Wonder helped Bob Dylan with his vocals.
Do They Know It's Christmas? begat We Are The World which begat our very own Tears Are Not Enough. They recorded We Are The World in one night on January 21, 1985, and Tears Are Not Enough was recorded in one night on February 10, 1985. That's how quickly Canada followed suit.
If you haven't seen it yet, and even if you have, I urge you to watch the Tears Are Not Enough documentary from 1985. If you're a regular Toronto Mike'd listener, you know I'm keen to collect as much additional detail as I can from those who were there and those who are notably absent.
I'm incredibly biased, but I'll take Tears Are Not Enough over We Are The World every day of the week and twice on Sundays. But to paraphrase FOTM Michael Williams, no WATW, no TANE.
