Ever since Elon Musk took over Twitter five months ago, users have been bracing for the social media site's demise. Twitter is dying, apparently. I have no idea what the future of Twitter entails, all I know is that of this writing I'm still active on the site and I'm still enjoying it.
On April 1, the vefification checkmark will disappear for all except those who cough up the $10 / month. If you want to be verified, and the other perks that come with it, you need to pay up. That's not a verification system at all, and I want no part of it. Even if it were ten cents a month, I'd take a hard pass on principle.
If Twitter is in fact dying, it will one day die, and many have asked me what my post-Twitter plan is for Toronto Mike. To be honest, I don't have one. I intend to go down with the Twitter ship, and should it stop functioning, I'll likely just blog more here until I decipher where the majority of my people have gone. Then, I'll go there.
Mastodon is not the answer. Neither is Sproutible or Post. Discord might be the answer, particularly as.a replacement for the not-so-secret FOTM DM group, but I won't worry about this until Twitter is unusable or no longer enjoyable. When that day comes, you'll find me here where I'll deliver further instructions.
