3 Fun Tips for Staying in Shape in a Big City

When most people hear the word “exercise”, they instantly picture lifting weights and running laps. Although these activities are amazing ways to stay in shape, they aren’t necessarily fun.

Thankfully, getting a workout doesn’t have to be boring, especially if you live in a big city. There are lots of exciting ways that you can get your daily dose of exercise. If you’re having a hard time coming up with creative ideas, feel free to use my suggestions as a source of inspiration.

1 – Give Yoga a Try

If you are looking for a fun and relaxing way to stay in shape, I would highly recommend going to a yoga class. Yoga is an excellent way to build muscle, improve your flexibility and increase your range of motion.

If you’ve recently suffered an injury at work or while playing sports, you need to take some yoga classes. Yoga is a low-impact activity, making it perfect for people who are looking for a way to get back on their feet.

2 – Massage

After your yoga lesson, I suggest that you get a massage. Methods like deep tissue, Swedish, and hot stone massages are great ways to kick-start your muscle’s healing process and are the perfect way to relax after a long week. If possible, work with a massage therapist that offer cross-disciplinary treatments. This way, you can ensure that every part your body is feeling refreshed.

Most big cities are home to several massage clinics in convenient locations, so if you are looking for a way to relax in Toronto, you should get a massage at Yonge and Eglinton.

3 – Indoor Trampoline

As a child, I loved jumping on trampolines; few things are more enjoyable than jumping and laughing with your friends. Many of us have great memories of trampolines, although, we often forget how much exercise you can get from jumping on them.

With fall in full swing, most people don’t want to purchase a new trampoline; they are bulky and difficult to store in small spaces. However, there are indoor facilities that you can visit which focus solely on indoor trampolines. These facilities are perfect for kids and young adults looking to get some exercise in fall. This means that you can have a great time while you work out (without getting cold).

4 – Go for a Bike Ride

If you live in a big city, you’ve most likely seen several people riding around on bicycles. This is due to many reasons ranging from convenience to cost-effectiveness. However, riding a bike is also an excellent way to stay in shape. On average, a person can burn anywhere from 450 to 750 calories in a single hour of biking.

If the fall weather isn’t cooperating with your biking plans, you can always go to a nearby spin class. Spinning is an enjoyable way to work your leg and abdominal muscles.

5 – Take a Walk

Anyone who lives in a city ends up spending a lot of their time riding in buses, trains and subways. Although these options are convenient, they provide you with no exercise. If you want to get more daily exercise, I suggest that you dust off your running shoes and go for a walk. Not only is it a healthier alternative to driving, but you never know what you’re going to see when you take a walk in a big city!
