Last month, I made the trek to Oshawa to speak with media students at Durham College. This class was given an assignment to critically review an episode of Toronto Mike'd. They were allowed to choose any episode they pleased.
I was given the opportunity to read these critiques, which I found fascinating. There was much praise, but I naturally focused on the negative. In a tweet storm yesterday afternoon, I shared some of what I read. That was part one. Today I received the rest of the assignments, so I present to you part two.
This student enjoyed @leeharveyosmond but felt I could have been more interesting. It's suggested I develop an on-air persona. pic.twitter.com/imaPeWQmtiβ Toronto Mike (@torontomike) December 5, 2018
This student enjoyed the way I made @LeafsMaz20 feel right at home. pic.twitter.com/ajBmZboDvZβ Toronto Mike (@torontomike) December 5, 2018
This student was surprised at how much she enjoyed the Buck-a-Beer ep with @troyBurtch.
Troy, we have great chemistry! pic.twitter.com/pXlfrGsP4Lβ Toronto Mike (@torontomike) December 5, 2018
This student enjoyed my "crispy mid voice".
I'm just honoured I was lumped in with Roger Ashby as a "really talented R.J." pic.twitter.com/ArkfEDYhCpβ Toronto Mike (@torontomike) December 5, 2018
Students were allowed to choose the episode they were to review, and I find it rather odd someone chose episode 400, which was just me playing clips from listeners. pic.twitter.com/p2d37lr29jβ Toronto Mike (@torontomike) December 5, 2018
Almost as odd as choosing episode 400 is picking the episode recorded at #TMLX2.
Here's a critical review of @dshoalts and @GareJoyceNHL's stand-up. pic.twitter.com/z7PSWXkWH4β Toronto Mike (@torontomike) December 5, 2018
On man (or woman's) junk is another's treasure.
Case in point, this student disliked the @stustone episode for the exact reasons I enjoyed it so much.
"too much content being covered." pic.twitter.com/vlqHpC41HOβ Toronto Mike (@torontomike) December 5, 2018
"The only thing this episode taught me is the life story of @josiedye."
Mission accomplished. pic.twitter.com/BCnR4pqFcSβ Toronto Mike (@torontomike) December 5, 2018
I'm really taking this piece of feedback to heart.
"He seems to build a rapport with others with ease." pic.twitter.com/fdlIpG7kIuβ Toronto Mike (@torontomike) December 5, 2018
This student understands the value of sincere passion.
Kudos to @tyleracampbell and @fullypodcast.
For Gord struck the exact right note. pic.twitter.com/2OVfe78vE1β Toronto Mike (@torontomike) December 5, 2018
I'm so glad @strombo and I won this student over.
Still not sure what "g=off" means. pic.twitter.com/SqJXyqtkY1β Toronto Mike (@torontomike) December 5, 2018
This critique of @6ixJamar's episode made me LOL because they believe the CHUM morning show was called "Marilyn and Dennis".
Makes you wonder why they didn't just go out and hire a Dennis. pic.twitter.com/yHRfMo2uMGβ Toronto Mike (@torontomike) December 5, 2018
This might be the most shocking critique I've read these past two days.
This is from @retrontario's last appearance. "I'm personally just not interested in the conversational tone."
It's very difficult to converse with someone without that tone! Where do I go from here? pic.twitter.com/b3JEmHjhgZβ Toronto Mike (@torontomike) December 5, 2018
I'd like to take back something in that last tweet. This is the most shocking critique I've read.
How could anyone find @leeharveyosmond boring?
Tom Wilson might be the most interesting man in the world!
I'm now questioning absolutely everything I ever thought I knew... pic.twitter.com/6rhFo4nv2tβ Toronto Mike (@torontomike) December 5, 2018
