This morning, I checked my Facebook feed. It appears I'm supposed to hate Gwyneth Paltrow now. This open letter to Gwyneth Paltrow that was published in the New York Post is being shared in anger by working moms.
From what I gather, Gwyneth Paltrow is on the shit-list because of this comment she made about raising kids while pursuing a career as an actress:
I think it’s different when you have an office job, because it’s routine and, you know, you can do all the stuff in the morning and then you come home in the evening. When you’re shooting a movie, they’re like, ‘We need you to go to Wisconsin for two weeks,’ and then you work 14 hours a day, and that part of it is very difficult. I think to have a regular job and be a mom is not as, of course there are challenges, but it’s not like being on set.
That's it? That's what has us hating her and boycotting her movies? That's all it took to offend us?
Gwyneth Paltrow is an actress. I won't take medical advice from her, but I'll enjoy her work in Shakespeare in Love or The Royal Tenenbaums. Oh yeah, and she was in Se7en, too. And if she thinks it's challenging to raise a kid when you have to go on location and work 14 hours a day, that's cool. It's just her opinion.
Could you imagine if we parsed every statement made by every actor and actress until we found ones we disagreed with and then stopped watching every movie that person appeared in? There would literally be no movies left to watch.
They're just entertainers, people.
