Shortly after I got my driver's license, in the very early 90s, my mom's car was a Hyundai Stellar. It was the worst car I ever drove, and that includes my first car, an '86 Ford Escort hatchback.
My experience driving my mom's Stellar was so poor, my thoughts about Hyundai automobiles have been tainted ever since. I knew the new Genesis would fare better, but I didn't have the highest of hopes.
I can tell you with all sincerity that my week with this luxury sedan was a delight. It was extremely comfortable, completely silent, and full of pep. The 429-horsepower V8 engine and 8-speed automatic transmission made our drive to Huntsville and back a whole lot of fun.
Returning to my standard '99 Protege I now totally miss the keyless entry and ignition, the heated and cooled seat, the auto-defogging system and rear camera and proximity warnings. Not to mention the coolest entertainment and navigation controls yet.
This wasn't my mom's Hyundai. This was an amazing machine for far less than you'd guess. I'm now wondering if the Accent might be what the doctor ordered when my old beater finally bites the dust.
