I watched the finale of Lost on Sunday night. It was 2.5 hours long, but fast forwarding the ads allowed me to blow through it in about 1:45.
Warning: I'm going to spoil the shit out of this episode below. If you plan to watch the finale, you might want to stop reading..... now.
When Lost concluded at about 11:30 that night, I initially felt cheated. Where were the answers? Sure, they sort of explained the whole alternate reality thing, but I still want to know why women couldn't have babies on the island. I have a lot of questions, actually, but this finale didn't seem particularly keen on answering them.
Instead, we got what could best be described as closure. All our friends were reunited, and the last ten minutes were actually rather calming and sweet, but there weren't any answers. The more I thought about it, the more I was okay with a lot of the island's mythology and secrets being kept bottled up. And the closing scene, with Jack seeing he wasn't dying in vain before closing his eyes where he first opened them six years ago, was pretty near perfect.
If you wanted answers, you hated this finale. If you needed an emotional send off to good friends, you loved this finale. I initially thought I wanted #1, then realized I needed #2.
