This is pretty cool. Toronto is promising to build a city that thinks like the web.
The first step in this progressive initiative is OpenTO, the City of Toronto's official data set catalogue. At OpenTO you can access City data, get information about City data and the City's OpenTO initiative. As stated on the site, "The City of Toronto is committed to open, accessible and transparent government".
The first thing I did was dive into the data where I found such nuggets as a real time XML feed of City-sponsored events and festivals in the City and three published OGC compliant WMS services to facilitate access to live geospatial data from the City of Toronto.
That's a lot of data. Now we just have to figure out how to do something worthwhile with it all. But remember, kids... knowing is half the battle.
