Is there a scarier person on the planet for baseball fans than Dr. James Andrews? Just hearing his name frightens me. This has been the case for as long as I can remember.
Non baseball fans won't know what I'm talking about, so here's a quick explanation. Dr. James Andrews is an orthopaedic surgeon from Birmingham, Alabama who diagnoses all the knee, elbow, and shoulder injuries belonging to Jays pitchers. I'm sure he does this for all teams, but I've only ever focused on Jays pitchers. When you hear a pitcher is off to see Dr. James Andrews, you fear the worst.
Shaun Marcum's MRI was just reviewed by "heralded sports surgeon" Dr. James Andrews and the news ain't good. He'll undergo Tommy John surgery on his right elbow and will miss all of the 2009 season. Dr. James Andrews, of course, will perform the surgery.
He's the scariest dude in baseball. Every time I hear his name, I cringe and pray he's not visiting with Doc Halladay.
