Exactly one week ago today I asked a simple question. Where Have You Gone, Dave Collins?. I was missing small ball, the days when players actually stole bases and didn't just play for the three run homer.
In the seventh inning last night, with the Jays and Yanks tied, Aaron Hill stole home off of Andy Pettitte. That exciting piece of small ball won us the ball game.
The straight steal of home was the Jays' first since Raul Mondesi accomplished the feat on April 17, 2001. It was far more exciting than any home run we've hit this season, and it verifies something I've suspected for quite some time. Brian Butterfield reads this blog.
