It was quite the night at the Hummingbird Centre. I'm going to break this recap into two sections: the bloggers and the production.
The Bloggers
I picked up our tickets at the media desk where I met Julie, the woman who hunted me down and was nice enough to answer a few pertinent questions about this web 2.0 marketing blitz. She told me I was prolific, which means my blogging production is abundant. I'm still unsure if that's a compliment.
Taryn and I were given pretty sweet seats. It was a perfect distance from the stage in the lower level, although we were on the side to the right of the stage. We were actually in a blogging section with the other bloggers who were invited. I kept overhearing discussions between mommy bloggers complimenting each other's blogs. It was surreal. Other discussions were about the female lead's butt in those unflattering pants.
I asked Julie if I could snap some pictures of the production and was denied the request, but I noticed one blogger doing just that. Apparently all Toronto bloggers are not created equal. I blame myself, having interviewed her not just once, but twice. I've created a monster.
The Production
I mentioned yesterday I'm not much of a theatre guy. I'm even less of a dance guy. Edward Scissorhands doesn't have a single word of dialogue. There's not even a lyric in the music. It's completely wordless with the entire story told in dance. If I were a betting man, I'd have bet the house on the fact I'd hate this.
I loved it. The sets were amazing, the dances were awesome and the entire story unfolded brilliantly without the need for speech. You're never bored and you're left wanting more. It shocked me how enjoyable these two hours were.
I was invited to meet the cast afterwards but I had a babysitter to relieve and had to hit the road. Here's a photoset of pictures I took. If you're interested in checking out this show, here's how you save $15. If you want Toronto Mike to write about his experience at your play, concert or sporting event, you know what to do.
