I subscribe to LeafsTV. That means I'm watching tonight's game against the Washington Capitals and I just witnessed a major Andrew Raycroft gaffe that led to the opening goal. This is a must win game, a game against a beatable team when so many of our remaining games are against better. If we can't skate away with two points tonight, I don't like our chances.
Raycroft so badly misplayed the puck, the goal was a gimme. This guy is only five wins from setting a franchise record for goaltenders, but we all know that record is a sham. Belfour and Cujo didn't have shootout wins to inflate the stats. It's a different era.
At the end of the recent win against the Lightning, I heard Harry Neale wonder why the crowd doesn't chant "Razor, Razor" like they did "Eddie, Eddie" or "Cujo, Cujo". The fact is, Andrew Raycroft isn't that good and hasn't won us over. We don't believe he's good enough to make the playoffs, let alone win us a series or two. He might put in a couple of solid outings in a row, but for the most part he's inconsistent. Some nights he has absolutely no glove hand and other nights he pulls a boner when you can least afford to give up a bad goal. That's already happened tonight and I fear the worst for my team.
It's a tough finish for the blue and white, but a win tonight would skip us into seventh. I think we need this, and we definitely need good goaltending. When we get good goaltending on a regular basis, we'll chant Razor, but that hasn't happened yet.
