Over the years, I've been rather harsh on The Dixie Chicks. Both my wife and mom are big fans and that's how their albums found their way into my collection. I've had a little fun with this musical interest of theirs, I just don't dig their sound.
Although I still don't dig their sound, I now root for the band since Natalie Maines' public criticism of Dubya got them boycotted in Jesusland. They're still paying the price for uttering "Just so you know, we're ashamed the President of the United States is from Texas." An ad for the documentary film "Shut Up and Sing" was recently turned down by NBC for being too controversial.
Tonight, the Dixie Chicks play the ACC and both my wife and mother will be there thanks to one generous and thoughtful husband and son. They may not be my cup of tea, but these Chicks have got guts and they've paid the price for not backing down.
Here's the "Shut Up and Sing" trailer NBC won't air.
