I thought I could trust Young MC. Marvin Young, who went by the name Young MC, had a monster hit in 1989 with "Bust a Move". Don't even pretend you didn't like it. Everyone, including yours truly, enjoyed "Bust a Move".
Like many others, I memorized the lyrics to "Bust a Move". It wasn't difficult, in fact, the memorization of the lyrics wasn't even intentional. "Your best friend Harry / has a brother Larry / in five days from now he's gonna marry / he's hopin' you can make it there if you can / 'cause in the ceremony you'll be the best man." See? It's tough not to remember lyrics like that.
Enjoying this read earlier today, I realized that although I had heard "Bust a Move" hundreds of times, I had never really listened. Had I stopped grooving for a moment and actually focused, I would have realized that Young MC was full of shit. If Larry is Harry's brother, why the hell is Larry making Young MC the best man? The truth is, he's probably not. It's more likely that Larry would be Harry's best man. Furthermore, why would Larry only mention this fact five days before the wedding? Something here stinks.
I'm not upset with Young MC, I pity him. His lies are obviously a shallow attempt to inflate his fragile ego. He's not the best man and that's okay. I just wish he didn't lie to us through song. I hate when that happens.
