Toronto Hydro Telecom plans to install wireless equipment on hydro poles and traffic lights, covering our downtown core in Wi-Fi goodness. Eventually, our entire sweet city will become one beautiful hotspot.
Although I'd like to see the final pricing structure, there's no doubt this is a good thing for Toronto. With wireless devices becoming more plentiful, there's no reason for this type of connectivity to be anything other than completely ubiquitous.
Toronto Hydro Telecom says the first six months will be free before the subscription service kicks in. I envision a future when Wi-Fi throughout the 416 is a perk available free to all residents. I'm the magical man from happy land, with a gumdrop house on lollipop lane!
