I was enjoying a great road game with the Leafs leading by a goal when we took a penalty in the second period for having too many men on the ice. That put us two men down and Milan Hejduk promptly scored. That put us only one man down when Milan Hejduk scored again to give the Avs a lead they would not relinquish. Ed Belfour had a rough second period allowing a couple of weak goals, including a super-softy from Cody McCormick.
That's three losses in a row. Bryan McCabe's injury is worse than we though and there's still no telling when we'll see Eric Lindros and Darcy Tucker again. Montreal is playing with new gusto under Bob Gainey, New Jersey is on fire, Atlanta is going gang busters and Tampa Bay, defending Stanley Cup champions, are only a point out of 8th in the conference. Only three of the five will qualify for the post-season. We need to get healthy, find a clue on defense and get better goaltending if we want to be playing in the second season.
