Four years ago today, James entered the world. I can't believe it's been four years already. Time flies when you're having fun.
James was due in late February, 2002. His arrival was five weeks early, but it was almost far earlier than that. I'll never forget the night of December 8, 2001. On that day, I threw on my Leafs jersey, picked up Steve and hit the highway to pick up Ryan. We had tickets to see the Leafs and Rangers at the ACC. As we pulled into the parking lot of Ryan's work, he had this highly concerned look on his face. Instead of jumping in the car he asked me to get out of the car because he had bad news. He had received a call on his cell from my mom that Taryn was in the hospital and unborn James was likely gone. Instead of heading to the ACC that night I ended up jetting straight to the hospital.
James, obviously, wasn't gone. That was some miscommunication, but there were complications and Taryn was in labour. A pediatrician shared with us all the potential complications babies this premmature experience and we hoped he's hold off for another month at least. He managed to do better than that, and although he spent ten days in an NICU ward after his birth, he's done remarkably well.
Today, James is a thoughtful, creative, active, smart and loving boy. His zest for life is addictive and his tender approach with Michelle is inspiring. He's so lovable it's frightening.
Happy Birthday Son!
