This morning, with my automobile running on fumes, I was forced to fill the gas tank. My lifelong streak of never paying more than 99.9¢ a litre for regular unleaded gasoline has come to a resounding halt. Today, I paid 122.4¢ at the pumps.
That's over 20% more than I had ever paid previously. I'm not yet a senior citizen, but I have an old timer tale to share. For a period of time in the early 90s, I drove a 1985 Ford Escort hatchback. I managed to drive this car for years without ever paying more than 50¢ a litre to fill 'er up. I still remember when I first paid more than a half buck a litre and how disappointed I was.
122.4...I miss the good old days.
