Dear Anonymous,
It is during the formative years that we are establishing the type of relationship we will have with our children. We must strive to build a foundation on trust, respect, and empathy during these early years. Hopefully as our children grow into young adults with more complex issues we can rely on the existing foundation to help guide us in our parenting. Being parents does not mean we will be without flaws and I am sure I will and have disappointed my children from time to time as I am sure they will disappoint me at times. Our relationship is a mutual process that is ongoing and static and I am hopeful that the disappointment will not diminish the solid foundation of our relationship.
