Elf: 5 out of 10.
Admittedly, this is probably the worst weekend possible for watching a Christmas movie. It's the May 2-4 and we're celebrating the end of a long winter and the beginning of patio and bbq season. In this spirit, last night I watched this Will Ferrell flick about a guy raised as an elf in the North Pole going to New York to find his birth father.
It's not horrible, but it's a little too safe for my liking. I've seen Will Ferrell much, much funnier than this. Watching this comedy reminded me of a far edgier, funnier Christmas comedy directed by Terry Zwigoff called "Bad Santa".
If it's December and you're watching with the kids, go with "Elf". If you're watching by yourself or with an adult audience, "Bad Santa" is your man.
