I've been rather fixated on the idea of Sidney Crosby playing in Toronto. I first floated the idea in early March and then revisited the notion in April.
According to the Toronto Star, the Maple Leafs have approached Crosby with the possibility of playing for the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League next season. There's officially a little smoke which means a fire may be starting. Of course, I'm lobbying for the NHL Leafs to sign Crosby, but the fact John Ferguson is having a discussion of this nature is a good sign. I envision a wink, wink signing of Crosby to the Marlies with the hope this agreement can be extended to the NHL club.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have rarely had a bonafide superstar on their club and they've never had the best player in hockey. It's time the world's greatest franchise has the world's greatest player. With a little luck, a cup may follow.
