It's a time of optimism. At this moment, the Blue Jays trail the New York Yankees by a mere .5 games for the American League East pennant. We're tied for the wild card position and dreaming of our first post season appearance since 1993. Today at 16:15 EST the Blue Jays take on the Tampa Bay Devil Rays at Tropicana Field to kick off the 2005 season.
Realistically, we'll be fighting hard to reclaim our annual third place spot in this division, but at least there are signs we're willing to play a little small ball. It looks like we'll be busy on the base paths, stealing bases, hitting and running and all of that fun stuff. We haven't done much running the past few years and I'm looking forward to seeing what we can do if we get the green light.
Since the slate is clean and we can be a little optimistic, lets wonder what might happen if the Yankees or Red Sox falter. They're not young clubs and the injury bug could bite. Perhaps each Jay has a career year, Halladay returns to form and Wells becomes a 30-30 man. It's a time for such dreams, it's opening day.
