In high school, friends and classmates would often speak of the all-nighter they pulled when studying for an exam. Others would party hard all night long and go without sleep for that day. I was always jealous of this ability to pull an all-nighter. I've yet to accomplish this feat.
If the adrenaline is rushing, I can stay up until the wee hours of the morning. By 05:00, however, my body just gives and I have to sleep. Looking back at the birth of my daughter gives you insight as to my limitations when it comes to all-nighters. She was born just before 01:00 on July 29th and in the euphoria following her arrival I was still fairly alert at 04:16 when I wrote a blog entry about her. I remember crashing before the clock hit 05:00. It takes the miracle of life for me to make it that long.
How do people pull these all-nighters and still function? I'll never know.
