Yahoo! turns ten years old today. In honour of the occasion, they've put together a very cool Netrospective: 10 years, 100 moments of the web.
Going to the University of Toronto in the mid-nineties, I remember vividly when we were all given email accounts. We'd line up in the libraries to access the terminals that would allow us to log in and send textual messages to the few others we knew with an account. This was cool, but then these libraries started offering access to the web to all students and Yahoo! was where I first cut my teeth.
I still log into my Yahoo! Instant Messenger every day with the username I established with them about a decade ago. Although I primarily use Google for my searches now, I still enjoy several Yahoo! services such as their most viewed news, My Yahoo! and music page.
Happy birthday Yahoo! It's been quite the decade for you and the web. The next ten should be interesting. I'm glad you're still around to enjoy them.
