The Academy Award nominations were announced this morning. Is it me or is everyone a little underwhelmed by the quality of the best movies of 2004? I remember when Shawshank, Pulp Fiction and Forrest Gump battled in 1994. I remember when Philadelphia battled with Schindler's List in 1993. I haven't been truly impressed with a year at the movies since 1999 when Fight Club, Magnolia, and American Beauty all dazzled me. Have I raised my expectations or has Hollywood let me down?
Steve
I agree with you 100%. I miss the days when you had to see a particular movie. We had to see Pulp Fiction, we had to see Forrest Gump, we didn't have an option. I can take or leave the nominated movies these days. They're fine, but they're not intriguing enough to get me to a theater to blow that kind of cashola.
On a related note, I'll post the nominated pictures in a moment and I'll host an Oscar prediction contest anyone can enter.
