As previously mentioned, I got a haircut Saturday. Yesterday, being my first day at work with the buzz, I got the usual jokes including the standard sarcastic question "Who's your barber?" To that question, I've always had a stock reply. I immediately deadpan "Ray Charles".
When I was asked the question yesterday, I kicked into auto pilot and began to say "Ray Charles". At once I realized this could no longer be my stock reply. Ray was no longer among the living and this was my first haircut since he passed.
I've changed my stock reply to "Stevie Wonder", but I'll never forget Ray. Not only was he The Genius Of Soul, but he was one hell of a barber who served me well for thirty years.
