Paul Molitor

Paul Molitor

Another Blue Jay is in Cooperstown.  When Paul Molitor was inducted into the baseball hall of fame yesterday, he became the third Blue Jay to enter the hall joining Phil Neikro and Dave Winfield.

Molitor played 21 seasons: 15 with the Milwaukee Brewers and three each with the Jays and Minnesota Twins. He was one of three players to register 3,000 hits, 600 doubles and steal 500 bases, joining Hall of Famers Ty Cobb and Honus Wagner.  In '93 with the Jays, Molitor became the oldest to hit 20 homers and drive in 100 runs for the first time.

I'll never forget his performance in the '93 World Series against Philadelphia.  He was simply awesome.  We were sitting a .363 hitter to get his bat in the line-up.  That '93 squad delivered in dramatic fashion and we're still living off that high eleven years later.  Mitch Williams was called in to preserve the lead in that memorable game 6.  He started by walking Rickey Henderson and forcing Devon White to fly out to left. Eventual Series MVP Molitor then rapped out his third hit of the game, raising his average to .500.  Joe Carter came to the plate and the rest, as they say, is history.
