Earlier in the week I wrote about how Gord Downie was singing "O Canada" prior to the 75th All-Star game from Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas.
I had a ball game myself that night, so I missed the opening ceremonies. I've been trying to find video or audio from the Fox telecast so I can hear Downie's rendition.
It turns out Fox went to commercial during Downie's rendition of O Canada. When the show resumed, American Idol Fantasia Barrino was getting ready to sing The Star-Spangled Banner. Talk about disrespectful! There are only the two national anthems during the pre-game ceremonies and Fox' decision to effectively edit out ours is a giant slap in the face. We all know how ultra-conservative and Dubya-loving Fox News is and that anti-Americanism is prevalent in all foreign countries, even Canada, so is there any doubt that the timing of this commercial break was politically motivated? How am I going to score a decent MP3 of Gord Downie's performance now?
