Smack dab in the middle of my Something's Gotta Give miniseries, I started bitching about all the commercials and coming attractions you get before a movie these days. I asked if there was a more captive audience. Today I learned there is a more captive audience, and it's no longer an ad-free zone.
Driving home from the ballpark tonight, I pulled into a nearby Esso station to fill up the tank. There I was standing there, squeezing the pump when an advertisement began showing on the video screen above. They would show an ad, follow it up with the weather as if this somehow justified the ad, and then they would hit you with another ad. I stood there filling my gas tank and being pummeled with advertisements.
Sure, you can refuse to look at the screen, but how do you escape the audio? I considered plugging both ears and singing to myself, but I needed one hand to squeeze the pump. The bastards had me, and they knew it.
