Mikael Renberg has signed a three-year deal with Lulea of the Swedish Elite League thus ending his career as a Toronto Maple Leaf.
Renberg spent three seasons in Toronto, scoring 40 goals and 112 points. My expectations for him after we traded for him were pretty high. Needless to say I'm disappointed when I look back at his time wearing the blue and white.
Renberg's stock rose to unreasonable expectations thanks to the fact he played alongside Eric Lindros and John LeClair on the Legion of Doom line for Philadelphia. The Legion of Doom were awesome because they were big and productive. Lindros was one of the best players in the league and LeClair was one of the best snipers. Renberg rode their coattails and once he left the Flyers he was never again able to be such a force in the NHL. He's still a fine player he's just not a star and when we traded for Renberg we thought we might be getting a star.
