Stick a fork in "Friends", it's finally done. As I've written before, I stopped watching this show years ago but I'll be watching tonight. Call it a morbid curiosity. I hope they kill off Monica.
In celebration of the demise of this extremely mediocre sitcom, I'm going to share my "Friends" story. Almost ten years ago, my brother Steve and I somehow found ourselves in front of the TV for the premiere of "Friends". I suppose we were on the station for "Seinfeld" and didn't feel like turning the station. I actually remember vividly our conversation during this new NBC series.
First of all, we had a good time discussing where we knew the actors from. We recognized all six immediately. Monica played Michael J. Fox's girlfriend on "Family Ties" and showed up in that Springsteen video, Phoebe was the waitress on "Mad About You", Ross was Kevin Arnold's sister's boyfriend on "The Wonder Years", Rachel was the Jennifer Grey character on the Ferris Bueller tv show, Joey was the star of the "Married With Children" spin-off "Top of the Heap" and Chandler played the memorable role of Sandy in "Growing Pains, amongst other guest star appearances on various sitcoms. We also had a good time laughing about how bad it was. That's right, we thought it was a joke of a sit com doomed to fail.
Boy were we wrong. I was sure "Bakersfield PD" would be the bigger hit.
