Sam Raimi, I salute you. I've just returned from the theatre where I saw Spider-Man 2 and it was everything I hoped it would be and more.
Of all the comic book super heroes, Spider-Man has always been my favourite. A couple of summers ago I thoroughly enjoyed Spider-Man but never did I dream the sequel would be even better. It would have been so easy for Sam Raimi and the gang to go through the motions, rely heavily on special effects and print money at the box office. Instead, they crafted a tremendous story with exceptional character development that stays true to the vision. I loved everything from the comic book style recap during the opening credit through the hilarious pizza delivery and J. Jonah Jameson sequences, the "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head" montage and build up for Spider-Man 3.
Speaking of which, I can't wait for Spider-Man 3. I'll be able to take James who has taken a liking to the character and even proudly sports his Spider-Man underwear while singing the Spider-Man theme song. The acorn doesn't fall far from the tree.
I believe there's a hero in all of us, that keeps us honest, gives us strength, makes us noble, and finally allows us to die with pride, even though sometimes we have to be steady, and give up the thing we want the most. Even our dreams.
